I like to give a diagnostic test at the first meeting to assess the client's familiarity with the topic, then, customize lessons to fit her or his needs. I aim to build a strong foundation, then, increase difficulty of concepts as client's comfort level with the topic increases. I use materials that are challenging, but not intimidating.
