I enjoy teaching people subjects that I understand. My preferred subjects to teach would be anything math, finance and accounting related. My teaching style is similar to coaching; I use positive reinforcement, motivate and lead by example. I look forward to any challenge and helping individuals succeed.
I graduated from high school in 2003 with honors and graduated in 2007 from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Throughout my schooling I have attended multiple classes in reading/writing, science, history, computer/I.T., foreign language, creative arts, business and math. As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student discover for themselves the material not only educates them but fosters a passion for the subject at hand. Rote memory has it's place and is essential, but when a student becomes passionate about a subject, then the door is open for them to excel at it. I teach and tutor with the goal in mind to foster that passion, that drive and to be able to carry it throughout a life of learning.
I was an exceptionally driven high school student, taking the most difficult schedule my small private school would offer. My course work included AP calculus and AP US government, on both exams I received good marks. In college I st ... read more

Knowledge is not something to be horded. I think we each have a responsibility to share what we know. I love to help people understand. I prefer to teach by lecturing, but I realize that individuals learn subjects individual ways, and thus as a tutor my task is to be clear and patient. From working with different people at different levels, I also know that to be successful I have to be flexible and creative, adapting my teaching style to the students' learning ability and personality.

As a lifelong lover of literature and writing, I have taught students from fifth grade through junior level college literature and writing courses. My MA and PhD degrees have only further accelerated my desire to continue publishing academically in peer reviewed journals. These writing skills have led to my tutoring and editing the work of high school students and adults pursuing publications in other fields, such as business and the medical professions. Additionally, my certification in Alternative Education has enabled me to participate in the pursuit of achieving excellence in writing among urban youth, regardless of age or prior experience.

I am a fervent believer of Gardner's mutiple intelligences, because I know that each person has a unique learning style, and unique interests. Therefore I will do all in my power to discover each and every student's learning preferences, so that learning becomes a responsible, joyful experience. Consequently, I use eccletic methods, in brief "whatever works"! I always look for new tricks, new technological ways, but also include the "good old ways" in my teaching... because some students like them! I have never met a person who is not curious about something, and I consider this joy for larning my sure ally!
