I am planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2012 and as such have developed a strong foundation in the sciences throughout my undergraduate education. Although I majored in Biology, my true passion is Chemistry. I spent 2 years on a religious service mission where I became fluent in Spanish. I am fascinated by the ability to communicate with an entirely new group of people. The joy that teaching and interacting with children brings is indescribable; there are few things that can match the satisfaction one feels when a pupil finally "gets it!" I believe that true education comes through understanding. Oftentimes students are taught tricks or rules to help them through a subject area, but I strive to bring my students to a point of clarity; I want them to be completely comfortable with the subject content because they understand it, not because they memorized a formula. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology earned in 1970 at Lynchburg College and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Health from East Tennessee University earned in 1979. I have taught sixth and seventh grade math, science and physical education and high school biology (three years total). I am now teaching a general environmental science course at National College in Lynchburg, Virgina. I have worked for the Virginia Department of Air Pollution and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for the last thirty years from inspector, permit writer and Regional Director.
