I have tutored, supervised, and entertained children and students since the year 2002. My first job was a theater specialist position at a day camp which taught me indispensable communication and multi-tasking skills. I have since worked with students in a variety of settings, subjects, and media. This past year I've held two positions which required me to tutor "at risk" children in the areas of math, reading, composition, and anger management.
My teaching style is unique in that I make the learning experience a two-way street between myself and whomever I'm teaching. I really do place something of a premium on being able to connect with all of my students on an academic and personal level. I believe that this helps them as they know that their teacher and tutor cares about them and their future and, as such, this causes them to grow and excel. I can attest to such things happening with many of my students and for that I am incredibly thankful.
I have done a lot of teaching and tutoring, both with adults and young people. Most of my experience, though, comes from working with high school and junior high school students. Every child learns differently. In a world where we corporately streamline everything so that it all comes out pre-packaged and exactly the same we often lose sight of how unique each person is. I find that listening carefully to a child's reasons for having difficulty can help you to better understand how to help them learn.
