I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. Writing has always been a passion of mine. My father is a writer/editor, so I grew up reading and writing often. In high school, I volunteered in the Writing Center for two years. We helped students with any part of the writing process, from brainstorming ideas for a paper to editing a final draft. While attending Texas Tech University I was employed by the Marsha Sharp Center for Student Athletes as a tutor and worked with athletes in the following subject areas: English, Spanish, Art History, History, and Political Science.
