I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding. I enjoy watching students grasp the scientific method as it is something that comes naturally to most people if put in the right context. Science is rewarding to teach
