ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I help identify ADD/ADHD symptoms for a child who may never have been identified as well as to having them seek allergy/asthma treatment if warranted. Milder forms of ADD are almost never identified, but causes the child some difficulty at home or at school. I use a lot of handouts to inform families who may have these problems in their children. I make referrals to the professionals when warranted. I use a diagnostic form to help you see if your child has some of these characteristics. It can have a profound negative effect on organizational skills which I teach, how to get through homework, and an option most do not know about doing, use some programs at home that can help students turn around some of their difficult behaviors they exhibit.

Time spent attending conferences and workshops began to help me learn how to help my severely-dyslexic son and grandson. Then I helped apply some of the concepts learned to help several dyslexic families with the problems they had including ADD/ADHA, organizational, spelling, reading, and comprehension issues. I have been volunteering for several years gaining experience along the way. Every student I have helped has had some kind of learning disability involved and guess those have various levels of dyslexia. In just a few cases have I been successful in getting them to have their children diagnosed. I have recently improved the outcomes of several students who have come to me and taken a complete non-reader and made him into a successful lst grade reader in a relatively short period of time. I have helped a student improve his reading level and am getting his performance to a 2nd ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching since I was young. I have tutored students since the age of 14 and I have taught students from ages 3 to 18 years old. I have been teaching in the Texas public school system for the last 4 years and I have loved every minute of it! I have taught all grades from Kindergarten to 5th as a special education inclusion teacher. As an inclusion teachers I have been able to teach grade level content to students who understand it but need for it to be taught in a different way. I am excellent at lesson differentiation and working with individuals who need help the most.
As a Special Education teacher at heart, I firmly believe that education needs to be guided by the student. I may have a lesson to teach but I am constantly changing the lesson depending on the individual student. I believe that learning should be a fun experience that is according the the learners pace.

While in New York State, I was employed through the Alternative Suspension Program as an LVN. While there,I assisted with the teaching of students. This in turn gave me the opportunity to obtain my certification in Teaching. I remained in this position for two years. During this time, I had my own case load of 5-8 students grade 7-12. Following this position, I was employed at a tutor for those youth who were home bound.
I attended college later in life. Recently, the opportunity arose to better myself. I chose Early Childhood Education and then continued on to obtain my Bachelor's Degree. Following this, I returned to school for Nursing. Eventually, we moved to Texas where I applied, tested and obtained my LCCA License.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having been a teacher, I understand all teachers teach differently, much like a student learns in a variety of ways. My approach is to bridge the gap that lies between the two--working with the teacher to receive a better performance from the student. I have a passion for seeing a child excel in education because it means they will continue on to become a prodictive member of society.
Upon graduting from college, I became an after-school tutor, grades 4-6, focusing on all levels of homework and emphasis on students who had particular needs. I entered the teaching field in 2005 as a high school English teacher in grades 9 and 12. I learned extensive outlets and skills in regards to test preparation, research, grammar, and real-world applications. My second and third year teaching was in an academy setting focusing on law. I taught grades 9, 10 and 12. There I was able to lear ... read more
