I follow the method of G. Polya in his classic work "How to Solve It". By asking the right questions, one can help the student define his problem, form a plan for the solution, carry out the plan, and examine the result. I also try to work as many difficult problems from the student's text as time permits, in order to show that all problems have a solution, and the student can build confidence in attacking any problem. I try to present the material in as many ways as needed, so that I can match the subject to the student's style of learning.

I like to instill in students a desire to learn. It makes it easier for them to have fun learning and easier for me to teach them new subjects. My first goal as a tutor, especially in reading and writing, is to connect with the student and find a topic that interests them. One of the biggest issues faced by struggling students is that they often don't identify with the problems. For a struggling reader this might mean not enjoying the subject matter of his/her book, and a for a student behind in math it may mean not seeing a real world application for the problems. I am a recent graduate from Washington State University and I'm currently looking for employment in the Greater Seattle area.
