A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years. I have always been given very high marks as an instructor with many comments on my positive energy and help for students. I have an applied mathematics minor so I would be able to teach algebra, geometry, trig, and introductory calculus.
I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students.

I received my bachelors’ degree in May, 2004 from Metropolitan State College with a BA in Behavioral Science (minor: Elementary Education). In the fall of 2004 I continued my education at MSCD by enrolling in the teacher preparation program, pursuing an endorsement in elementary education. 12 semester hours of student teaching remain before I obtain my teaching license; however, for personal reasons, I have stopped attending school for the time being. The teacher preparation program at MSCD includes an academic year of pre-student teaching internships. From January 2004-May 2004 I interned in a third grade classroom, and from August 2004-December 2004 interned in a fifth grade classroom. These valuable experiences afforded me the opportunity to: • develop and implement lesson plans on a wide range of topics and varying levels of academic ability, • work with emotionally and phys ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

A recent graduate of Brown University, I am well accustomed to pursuing education excellence. In my time at Brown, I earned a 3.96 overall GPA and a 4.0 GPA in my area of study. My diverse coursework allowed me to learn material in many subject areas, as well as develop strong study and organizational skills, time management ability, and exceptional work ethic. My researching skills were employed on a daily basis in my studies, as well as my ability to capture those facts in concise and comprehensive writing. In high school, I tutored student at an hourly rate and in college volunteered to tutor inner-city children. Further, I spent countless hours over the past 8 years with fellow student, tutoring them and aiding in their academic success.
My philosophy of tutoring is rather simple - every individual has unique needs that should be met by a tutor in the most patient, sensitive, ... read more

I am patient and open to a variety of teaching and learning styles. I work by positively encouraging kids to want to learn and by finding what their "hot buttons" are to avoid instilling fear into them. When I teach kids, they actually want to learn and the results have been great!
I am a bright, patient, and good teacher. I have been tutoring professionally and on a volunteer basis for many years. I am a business professional who has an MBA and an undergraduate degree in liberal arts. Both degrees are from top ranked institutions. I enjoy working with children!

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy teaching. There's two things in particular I find especially amazing: The first is working with a student and hear them say, "Oh, that's what it's all about! I get it now." Seeing that sudden "click" when a difficult subject is suddenly clear is absolutely golden. The second is being able see the improvement they've made. In order to see this improvement, I work patiently and strive to always encourage my students through every step of the learning process. My teaching style tends to be energetic and enthusiastic; if the teacher isn't excited about the topic, the student won't be, either. Every child can reach their potential given the right environment.
As a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I've witnessed students struggling to understand concepts and began tutoring in order to help them. In addition to the courses I've taken for my environmental ... read more

Teaching has been an extremely rewarding career. My primary goal as a teacher is to help each child to experience the great feeling of success. I believe that success, big or small, promotes self confidence, which creates further successes. My teaching style is supportive and kind. I challenge my students to the extent that I believe they are capable. I am patient and believe in positive reinforcement as a teaching tool.
I have been teaching dance to children and young adults for the last 10 years. However I pride myself on teaching my students more than the physical elements of dancing. The exercises, and "games" that I teach incorporate important memory and creative thinking skills. I love teaching kids. Kids absorb new things like a sponge and often need things taught in a variety of ways in order to fully comprehend a subject. Regarding math, I use real-world examples to show how a particular concept is important. Then, I show the method to solve the problem. Next, I have the student teach me how to solve the problem. Finally, I have the student do practice problems in order to master the material. Practice indeed makes perfect. I hold students accountable for completed homework. In class, I make constant connections with the material to the student's passion or personal interest. I constantly ask questions. I am patient, energetic and thrive on seeing progress in my student's academics. I enjoy biking and hiking.

I have a master's degree in Economics and undergraduate degrees in both Mathematics and Economics. In my courses I have generally been one of the strongest students and I would regularly help my peers. I really enjoyed this informal tutoring for several reasons. I like explaining things, and I like helping out my friends. I also found that when I explained a concept to a fellow student that I developed a deeper understanding myself. For me, informal tutoring was something I enjoyed and it also helped me be a better student.
I try to explain ideas in more than one way. If you can take an idea and look at from multiple angles then you have a better grasp of it. I also find that some explanations, for whatever reason, just don't work for some people and it's necessary to think of a new way to explain something. I enjoy teaching people things and I get a feeling of satisfaction ... read more

As a child I came to America speaking only Spanish. Thanks to the patience, care, and knowledge of great teachers and tutors I was able to become fluent in English by the time I was in 2nd grade. I would like to share my knowledge with other minority kids who have the dream of graduating from high school and continuing their education as I have been fortunate to do. I have volunteered, and was then offered a day care position at FLOC child care in Boulder, and I also volunteered at Boulder High School during my college career. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pass that on. I have done much reading when I was younger, exploring memory and mnemonics. I also took the Mega-Memory and speed reading courses by Kevin Trudeau. They are the ones that are in the Skymall catalog. I believe those really helped me in my studies, because I learned to approach learning the same way I approached sports. People would laugh in university when I would tell them that I never read anything for school late at night because I was tired and it wouldn't sink in properly, or that I would never eat a meal less than one hour before a test and I challenged them to try the same.
Learning starts with learing about oneself and how you best perform. It is very similar to sports, you start off learning the techniques and then you must lea ... read more

I do best working one on one with students or in very small groups. I like to get to know my students. This helps me determine how they learn and how I can make their experience as useful as possible. Also, its more fun to do work with someone that you respect and understand.
It wasn’t until my boys started school and I spent time in their classrooms that I realized I had a passion and an aptitude for working with young students. I was hired by the Boulder Valley School District in 2007 as a para and soon after was working one on one with special needs students in kindergarten. This realization prompted me to re-enter the college scene as a graduate student, which I finished this December.

My tutoring style is that of thorough explanation. I don't give the answers but, rather, coach the individual to determine the answers on his/her own and then provide the theory as to why the answer is correct. I am very compassionate, cheerful, and outgoing, and those personality traits, as well as my passion for learning, teaching and interacting with children of all ages come through in my instruction. I don't think any questions are stupid or unnecessary; rather, I welcome and encourage questioning, as I feel that doing so is an integral part of the learning process.
My only formal tutoring experience was during my high school years as a reading tutor for middle school students attending an at-risk school in Tulsa, OK. That said, I have guided, mentored and coached countless fellow students during my college career as well as professionals who have worked either with or for ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I first tutored my peers during high school in two subjects in which I excelled, physics and algebra. In undergrad the tables were turned as I was tutored in electro-magnetism (physics). My BS in Electrical Engineering gives me not only the skills to be proficient in the sciences and math, but also various social studies and English classes. I attended a Jesuit university where the goal upon graduation was to be a well rounded individual able to communicate in many mediums. In law school I tutored elementary students while becoming an expert on persuasive writing, technical writing, and researching.
I believe all children are capable of mastering any subject given the proper dedication. My goal as a tutor is to lead a child to the euphoria of gaining skills needed to obtain a beneficial education. While each child is different, I prefer to have the child review each subject p ... read more
