I graduated this spring with honors from Carleton College. For my senior thesis in Math, three of my colleagues and I designed a Challenge Math curriculum for fifth grade students. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. When I moved to Boulder this summer, I began tutoring CU students, adults taking online courses, and high school students. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and GRE.
My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need me to explain the subject material to them rather than read it from the book, while other students benefit most if they work through a problem and then ask me a question when they get stuck. Though regardless of the student, I always ask questions as we go, because I know that students learn best when they engage with the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an honors graduate, I pursued most of my education within my communications degree. I will begin teaching a 15-20 person writing class of 4-6 graders at the YWCA in Boulder this month. This is similar to a youth organization I worked for in high school where I mentored a group of elementary age students and initiated a youth magazine where the participants could publish their own poetry and stories. I have been tutoring children while in college and since. I tutored children as part of the No Child Left Behind Act in the fields of reading, English, math, history, and science. Since graduating college, as performing as a case manager in mental health and for homeless families, I have tutored children in the same fields.
