As an undergraduate student at Utah State University, I spent two years working as a Undergraduate Teaching Fellow, a Teacher's Assistant, and a Supplemental Instructor. I taught labs and assisted students with understanding information in the subject areas of Microbiology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology. I held review sessions, created tests and quizzes, and met with students individually or in groups to answer questions, review tests, or improve study habits.

I've enjoyed working with children, a native American, and adults. Some can learn more than what is required and I have raised the bar. To prepare myself, I would review as necessary. I pay close attention to what is going on in the mind of the student and on student's paper, working on my paper in parallel, and making student corrections promptly. I like to give motivation and discuss, give insights and examples from my experience, and suggest better ways to solve a problem. I believe learning is an organic process involving physical changes to the brain. I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.
After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring style is based on three principles: patience, excitement for the subject and alternative explanations. Through my tutoring experience and having children of my own I have been able to develop the patience to allow students to work through problems and gain their own understanding even when the process is lengthy. I enjoy math and the physical sciences and believe that bringing that excitement to the tutoring situation helps to motivate the student and give them the energy to succeed.
