I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. Early in my career I worked with adults that were mentally and physically challenged. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. I have an MA from Marist College as well as a BA from NYU. I have designed and taught SAT prep classes (verbal/writing portion) as well as developing curriculum integrating diverse domains of knowledge to create a broad, deep and flexible learning experience for students.
I believe that competence and confidence are BOTH important in learning. Students bring their own knowledge and learning styles to the process. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy revolves around the notion that students need respect, encouragement, and guidance to succeed in all of their academic endeavors. I believe the best way to inspire students is by conveying our own passion for the subject through out attitude of reverence for the written word, our knowledge of literature and writing, and our confidence in our own skills as educators. I believe all students can learn to write well when given a relaxed environment where they can learn to express themselves in their own literary voices.
