My teaching style is centered around working with an individual wherever they happen to be at. In college, I assisted other students in Drury's writing lab. And, as an editor and journalist, I have extensive skills in dealing with helping reporters to communicate clearly and succinctly.
I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Working primarily at smaller newspapers, I have an extremely varied background of experiences - from writing "hard" news and features to on-the-job training for new reporters just out of college or new to the profession.

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems). I have not taught english to an 11th grader in a public school, but I make it a fact to learn everyday and spread the knowledge to whomever i come into contact with and is willing to learn. I have recently been studying and implementing hydrogen generating systems and the effects of injecting it into internal combustion engines.

I am a Special Education teacher by education and by choice. My teaching style is one that can be changed at any time to answer the learning style of a student. I am a hands-on, multiple teaching style person because I know that students do not learn by using just one learning style. If I said that I just had one teaching style, then I would only be teaching to one type of student and that is detrimental to all students. Children want to learn. It is the job and responsibility of the teacher to show enough concern and ability to show these children how to learn. I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore,finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done.
