A Little Bit About Me...

Experience: My teaching experiences are diverse! I am a Certified MN Teacher in Health and Physical Education, but have been involved in various other content areas. I am enthusiastic about learning and willing to assist students with their learning goals! My experiences began at the Middle School level, teaching 8th grade Health. Next, I taught 6-8 grade Physical Education. Then I substitute taught in nearly every subject, grades 4-12. This past summer I taught a Wellness and Recreation class for a chemical dependency treatment program. For the last year, I have taught night school at an Alternative High School in Health and PE. I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology. Just about every semester I have written a 7-15 page research paper and have written several other essays, reports, and assignments in general. I have also done research for domestic violence organizations and helped teach college-level introduction courses.
Teaching is a wonderful experience! My teaching style is laid-back, I'd say. I like having conversations in order to determine how someone learns. I began as a teacher's assistant in 1994 for 4 years before returning to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Ed. I obtained endorsements in high school math and reading. My teaching experience began at a school for girls who are court ordered to residential treatment for behaviors. Unfortunately, after over 8 years in this position, I was laid off. Since then I have been employed by Sylvan Learning Center, a tutoring facility where we work with student of various ages and abilities. We assist these students with reading, math (both beginning to high school levels), study skills and test prep.
