A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach by first explaining the concept, having a book or something the child can keep and study out of, provide practice problems to the student, and last but not least help them with their homework.
I have tutored since my 7th grade year at the public library and have been tutoring ever since. I want to expand my groups and help kids success in school no matter what subject it is. I attended a math academy when I was little, Kumon, and now I want to create something like that. My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I am experienced in teaching all elmentary subjects and I know what it takes to help a student grasp the material and relate to it all.

First, I like to determine a student's learning styles. Not all student learn the same. There are visual learners who learn by looking and writing. There are tactile learners who learn by doing and moving around (hands-on activities), then there are auditory learners who learn from hearing the information. I accommodate all styles int he classroom, but when tutoring, I assess the child by doing a learning style inventory which allows me to determine what style that particular child has. For visual learners, we use the basic paper and pencils, they watch me work. I model problem solving for them and then monitor them. For tactile learners, we pull out materials we can use our hands to work s with.
