My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.

Students will have ideas. Those ideas will be considered valuable. Modeling and scaffolding will be used to create a foundation for learning. The success will create more motivation. Wait time will increase so students can make better responses. Constructivism will be used so the students can apply, and link the lesson to prior knowledge in a way they can retain it. . I love seeing students become excited about learning and becoming self-directed learners. Oftentimes, this means that the student takes the lead and I am there mainly to provide encouragement and structure. I try to provide a safe environment for learning. I believe there are no dumb questions and it is OK to make mistakes. I encourage students to brainstorm and think outside the box.
