Experienced instructor with 99 ASVAB

I am an instructor at Virginia College and VC recently cancelled its ASVAB tutoring program. I have had many successful students go through the program, but due to funding constraints the college can no longer support the initiative. Nevertheless, I am going to continue tutoring and hope to see many students pass all of their exams! J.D. Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, 2010 B.S. Mathematics and Criminal Justice, University of South Carolina, 2007
I will begin by walking you through how to solve the problems. After a few sessions of that, we will then move on to simple exams taken by the student to gauge your knowledge. Finally, we will end with a practice exam to ensure that you are at the appropriate level.

Individualized attention to the whole student's needs brings the best success.
Dr. Griffith Garland studied engineering physics as an undergraduate at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, pioneering the program by being a member of the first class to graduate with that degree. She was twice a member of Who's Who Among American College and University Students and graduated summa cum laude. She put herself through college by tutoring students, working as a teaching assistant, and becoming the training manager at the University's computer lab. She went on to study geochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she researched hydrothermal systems on Mars and their implications for life. While earning her Ph.D. at Washington University, she realized that some professors had difficulty conveying material to their students. She decided to be different and completed a Master ... read more

University professor with years of tutorong experience.

I have taught and tutored since I was sixteen. I currently teach for USC, a few online universities, Syl. Learning Center, and am a Professional Writing Tutor. I teach all grades and university levels, but my specialties are AP Courses and university courses. I have taught everything from 4 yr olds phonics to College level writing and literature to basic maths and sciences to Calculus and Trig.
I try to me more personable than most instructors. Many students simply need another approach to a subject to understand the material. I actively find that perfect approach for an individual student.

Students learn differently, and I try to find each student’s comfort zone for learning. Some teachers may not have the chance to really analyze a student’s learning needs due to the other 30 students in the class. That is why I think I have such an impact on all my students. I am patient and easy going person and like to provide a relaxed environment for the student, which I find enables them to ask more questions and feel more confident.
My interest in mathematics and physics led me to my college program of Civil Engineering. Along the way to earning my BS in Civil Engineering, I was exposed to a broad range of mathematics and different areas of physics. I immediately noticed that I excelled in these subjects and took the opportunity to tutor others in these disciplines for two years while in college. Since graduation, I have continued tutoring mathematics and physics for ma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have an earned M.S. and B.S. in Applied Mathematics which have given me the needed skills to work with students. I also have worked in a Math tutoring lab for about a year. In addition, I have taught a summer algebra class as well as graded statistics papers for professors.
I really love helping students understand the material. One rule that I do have is that students should at least try and not be lazy about the matter. I remember seeing one quote way back when I first started mathematics, "Mathematics is not a spectator sport." Now this may sound cheesy but this is the truth in order to get through a math class you must work hard at it and practice, practice, and practice some more and if truely don't get something I will be more than glad to help.

A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring has been an integral part of my undergraduate career, and something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I love working with students and getting to know them. As a teacher, my main objective is to make the material relevant and interesting. I believe every student has a unique way of conceptualizing the material, and I like to approach a concept from various angles until the student fully understands. From working with the Academic Success Center, I know the value of preparedness and organization. For each tutoring session, I like to organize a lesson plan and create worksheets. In this way, I hope to enable students to interact with the material and work through repetition.
I recently graduated from Clemson University with a 3.98 GPA in Chemistry. As a recent graduate, I have a detailed understanding of both scientific and mathematical concepts, as well as a fresh recollectio ... read more

For 1:1 tutoring my teaching style will vary depending on the individual's needs and the topic covered. I try to work at the student’s learning pace in an effort to allow the student time to comprehend and retain what is covered within the session. I am not interested in helping others learn what I know (and love) to find out later that I was "too fast" for them to use the information after the session. Covering any topic outside their natural pace is a complete waste of everyone's time.
I graduated with a 4-year degree in Mech. Eng. in 1997. I was very successful for the next 12 years, in various positions. In 2009, I changed to the IT field. As an engineer and thereafter, I mentored many friends, colleagues, and friends of friends with computers. I am familiar with MS Windows, but I plan to learn about MAC PCs soon. I know I can help any user find a better way to operate ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am a recent graduate of Alabama State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Graduating magna cum laude at the top of my class with a 3.65/4.0 grade point average, I was always sought after for help in those tough curriculum classes like physics, chemistry, genetics and molecular biology. In the spring of 2006 I began formally tutoring general and organic chemistry to college juniors and seniors for the physical science/chemistry professor at my university. In the summer of 2006 I picked up another work study job tutoring college juniors and seniors in Physics. I continued both of these jobs until my graduation in May of 2007. I also voluntarily and independently tutored younger, grade-school aged, children in a host of subjects. I have a very strong understanding of math and writing as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

The majority of my formal teaching experience has come in the past four years during my graduate career, during which I taught 3 semesters of college-level introductory and cellular biology labs. Additionally, I have worked extensively with incoming graduate students, developing and teaching workshops on presentations, oral examinations, and general studying skills. I am passionate about biology and the sciences and am a firm believer in an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Having just finished my master's thesis, I have strong outlining and writing skills that are applicable to any field of research.
I am an advocate of self-discovery and prefer to ask questions of my students rather than answer them. I believe that if a student can discover the answer for themselves, rather than being told the answer, they will have a deeper and longer-lasting understanding of the mater ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that every child can learn, but every child learns differently. I feel it is very important to connect the content with the students. It makes the learning more meaningful. I enjoy working with students in small groups so that I can give them the attention that they need. My students learn through many of their own experiences as well. I am very patient with my students. I very rarely give my students an answer to a questions. Instead, I ask in the student appropriate questions or point the student in the right direction to figure out the answer on his or her own. I believe in positive reinforcement and allowing the child to succeed. Each learner is capable of learning when given the chance.
As a successful learner, I studied education in college. I graduated in four years with a 4.0 grade point average in the Education Department. I student-taught in a first grade ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, I was driven to study engineering and music to create a balanced lifestyle. I have earned a bachelor of science with a major in engineering science and a minor in music. The ability to counteract my math and science studies with the arts is beneficial for the body and mind. My off-campus work-study job during my college career included tutoring at an after school program for children in elementary school to middle school in the subjects of math, science, and english.
I believe that all children have the ability to learn effectively. It is just a matter of understanding how that child specifically learns best, is how to provide the best possible teaching method. If the child is surrounded by positivity throughout their education as well as constructive criticism, the child will understand their potential and move forward.

Here is Some Good Information About Calculus I Tutoring

Are you taking a calculus class and realizing that you are not an Einstein? Calculus is definitely one of the hardest math classes a student can take. Peers and study groups are great if the student simply needs to review or study for a calculus test. However, if the student is struggling and needs the expertise of a professional then hiring a qualified and educated tutor specifically in calculus is what the student needs. Students can succeed in a calculus class; it just may take some extra help to nail down and understand the concepts of this upper level math class.
