A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience has been centered around a field of a court. Since the age of thirteen I have been helping a wide age group of kids learn to play soccer and basketball. When I was in high school I helped to volunteer at camps often running my own drills and games. Continuing into my college career I continued to teach soccer. At Augsburg College we have a camp each year for the kids from the Cedar-Riverside community. It is put on by the men's and women's Augsburg players. Though this is our biggest camp of the year, we have many more such as our President's day camp or our Memorial day camp. At each camp we devote our time to teaching kids how to head the ball, kick properly, strike, and teach them new moves while helping to perfect their old moves.

Journalism is one of my top subjects! I worked as a Business reporter for 5 months and received a reward for one of my pieces.

I work hands-on, using examples. However, I am readily able to adjust to new learning styles!
I have taken creative writing and journalism courses. I have experience in the journalism field, and won an award for one of my stories. I have also done much writing on my own, including writing a full-length novel (in the works of being edited with hopes of publication). I am an avid reader and my reading comprehension/writing scores on tests have always been well above average.

After beginning my tutoring experience as a volunteer with Metro North Adult Basic Education in 2003, I have continued to tutor students at various grade levels in many different subjects. I find it to be a tremendously rewarding experience. I am flexible and patient. I understand that reading and writing doesn't come easily to a lot of students. It is, in its own way, a skill not unlike hitting a golf ball or being a really good cook.
