A Little Bit About Me...

I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet. I am the one that accepts that challenge and carries through that process of finding the best possible answers.

I went to college at Iowa State University and finished at the University of South Dakota with a major in communication disorders and a minor in psychology. I have a strong training background. I have held jobs in which I was a manager, which required me to train staff. I also taught computer classes (Microsoft, Internet, Basic PC) at Western Iowa Tech for a few years. I prefer one on one settings for teaching, but I have no problem standing in front of people. I use my work experience to apply what the student has learned in the classroom and instruct them how the subject is applied in today's work force. I am able to give instructions and address feedback when applicable. Although I have not taught in a formal classroom, I have held numerous professional meetings in the past for previous employers. A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as the department tutor for a first semester calculus based physics course at my university. I also graded undergraduate physics homework for second semester calculus based physics. Throughout my undergraduate education, I worked as a research during the summer and post graduation, I spent continued school for a year as a graduate student. Then I took a year off to see the world as a consultant. Now I'm planning on going back to school full time in the fall for electrical engineering and am currently getting taking a few courses part time to prepare me for the return.

I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well.
