Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects!

I have taught all aspects of literacy since 2003. This includes reading, writing, grammar, phonics, spelling, and handwriting. I was an Early Literacy teacher for two years and a Title I teacher for three years. In addition, I have taught preschool children and middle school children. My last three years of teaching directly were in a second grade classroom. I have abundant experience in assessing reading skills and abilities and determining students' reading levels.
I try to include fun in every lesson. Playing games, creating rhymes or chants to remember mechanical rules helps students to move forward in their skills. Consistency with generous praise so that students feel success creates readers.

After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and working with children, but am comfortable with all age groups. Younger children's cognitive linguistic skills are better than older children, but anyone can learn a language if the approach and desire are right (even adults). Learning should be made fun to keep the interest and that is how I scope my teaching style.
I grew up and was educated in both Spain and the U.K. and have benefited greatly from this experience. My complete command of both English and Spanish languages enables me to assist students with ease.
