I have taught Language Arts in Middle School, 7th and 8th grade. In addition, I taught all major subjects in Grades 3, 4, 5. I have worked with students in regular education classes, and also have had previous experience with special needs children ( behavior and academics). My students have been successful with city and state assessments, and in the recently developed ratings in NYC I am "effective", very close to "highly effective", in their newly developing rating system.

My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. My experience in diagnosing and instructing students at various stages and abilities of literacy acquisition has helped me garner a talent for overcoming this challenge, and propelling students into higher order thinking.
