More About This Tutor...

After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. My skills as an educator served me well and I did extremely well. After approximately 8 years I decided I wanted to go back to teaching, and have been teaching the use of computers. I enjoy helping individuals to increase their skills and achieve success!

Over the years, I have had the ability to work in various grade levels in various school districts. During my student teaching I had the chance to teach first and fourth grade. After graduating, I subbed in many school districts throughout the Capital Region. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a self-contained classroom serving children between first and third grade. I had the opportunity to work one on one with them and contribute to helping them successfully reach some of their IEP goals. I currently work as a Pre-k teacher in a local elementary school and work to meet their indiviual needs every day.
Teaching is my passion! I believe that every child has a person learning style and that once a teacher can tap into the child's interests and find a way to engage them in their own learning, this will lead the child on a road to success!

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my teaching career, I have become accomplished in creating efficient lessons that reach diverse learners and make relevant connections to the world beyond the classroom. I am proficient in the areas of British and American Literature and have designed innovative units based around such classics as The Scarlet Letter and Of Mice and Men. Making germane connections and scaffolding ideas, allows for deeper comprehension, interpretation, and analysis. This methodology, as well as my vast range in experience has allowed me to thoroughly prepare my students for the English Language Arts Exams, English Regents Exam, and PSAT/SAT. I have prepared students in terms of vocabulary, reading comprehension, and test taking skills. I dedicate my efforts to improving writing on all levels, whether it is creative, professional, Regents, SAT, outlining or proofreading. Writing is a very i ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Before earning a BA in Biology at Skidmore College and after graduating high school, I took three years off to play hockey. Concurrently, I enrolled in classes at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and tutored in the math department. I tutored students in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and some calculus. At Skidmore I continued in math, taking calculus I, II, and III, and linear algebra before focusing my attention on molecular biology. I habitually studied with my classmates and I found great satisfaction helping others understand complex subject matter. The challenge to explain concepts in alternative ways in order to cater to different learning styles was enriching to my own understanding. Thus, while bolstering my own knowledge of the material, I developed the skills needed to be a superior tutor.
My teaching style is fueled by my personal enthusiasm for ac ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having recently completed a dual Masters degree in Childhood Education and Special Education, I have had the pleasure of working with children in grades 1 - 6 in both special education and general education settings. I have taught the gifted and talented, children with learning disabilities, those on the autism spectrum, and students with physical disabilities. This Masters program, which I have completed with a 3.98 GPA, has allowed me to further hone my already well-developed grammatical and writing skills. Furthermore, in 2006, I completed my Bachelors degree (Cum Laude) in Psychology, with a Minor in English, which has provided me with a unique and valuable ability to understand students’ cognitive and emotional development.
