I graduated this spring with honors from Carleton College. For my senior thesis in Math, three of my colleagues and I designed a Challenge Math curriculum for fifth grade students. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. When I moved to Boulder this summer, I began tutoring CU students, adults taking online courses, and high school students. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and GRE. My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need me to explain the subject material to them rather than read it from the book, while other students benefit most if they work through a problem and then ask me a question when they get stuck. Though regardless of the student, I always ask questions as we go, because I know that students learn best when they engage with the material.

I am an exceptional math/English tutor. I've earned a bachelor degree in Accounting from Santa Clara University. I have three years professional working experience for several multinational companies, which has helped me understand the importance of great communication and math skills in business. In Denver, I've taught math and English to high-risk youth. For the 2010-2011 school year, I had 100% of my students’ parents request me to be next year's tutor. I passed the state certified PLACE mathematics exam showing competency in math (i.e. pre-algebra, algebra I, II, calculus, trig, geometry, and other math operations and concepts). I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students. I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years.
