LEARN THE GUITAR BY WITHOUT (FIRST) LEARNING TO READ MUSIC!

My Approach To Teaching Guitar... At the early age of 14, I discovered that I had a “knack” for music when I had the opportunity for a friend to show me how to play a few basic chords on his guitar (because I didn’t own one myself). Although press- ing down on the strings hurt my fingertips, and my fingers kept slipping out of position, I fell in love with the guitar’s sound when it all finally came together... Eventually, my mother bought me my first guitar! The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing. I am endlessly creative, coming up with myriad examples to illustrate concepts.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been playing stringed instruments for 23 years. My main area of focus is the guitar, and I have toured the country playing in groups. I enjoy teaching and have done so for years privately. I currently have students via Skype and have been chosen to teach on the Cayamo singer/songwriter cruise in 2011 after a successful workshop series I had on this year's cruise that featured many of my heroes.
