I am a retired anesthesiologist and practiced for 28 years. Before that, I was in family practice for five years. I went to the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a bachelors degree in pre-professional studies. I then went to Midwestern Medical School in Chicago and received my anesthesia training at the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry. I also studied an extra year in pediatric anesthesia as a sub-speciality. I am also a massage therapist with specialty training in lymph drainage and abhyanga. I enjoy helping other people learn, and I get a sense of satisfaction when they grasp new information. I have tutored students needing help with homework assignments or studying for an exam. I requested that they bring their notes and textbook so that I use them as a reference when teaching. I can either answer specific questions or walk through the material. I ask the student questions about the material to make sure they understand the information completely. While pursuing my Engineering degree at Roger Williams University, I noticed that there were not too many students from low income families attending college. That is why I joined Bridge to Success Program on January 2001. BTS was a program, sponsored by Roger Williams University at the time, which focused in assisting and encouraging students from low income families as well as minorities. I served as a mentor for five years in the program. I helped a number of students go into college and helped them improved their grades in math and science. While earning my bachelor's degree from Brown University, I taught middle school math and upper school English for two summers at Cushing Academy. My students varied widely in terms of previous experience and motivation, and I strove to approach each at his or her level and to think of each of them as individuals, never just a member of a homogeneous classroom. Last year, I taught middle school music at the Dana Hall School; some of my students had never played an instrument or sung in a choir, while others had years of experience.
