Currently, I have 15 graduate semester hours including Advanced biochemistry, parasitology, Advanced botany, and Plant development. In addition, I have extensively learned proper laboratory research paper formatting. I have tutored Anatomy/Physiology, general chemistry, and pharmacology.
I enjoy teaching and helping other students understand difficult material. I love to use diagrams and other visual teaching tools. My teaching style has evolved somewhat since then. I mostly give mini-lectures immediately followed by student problem solving work. I then get input from the students on how to solve a problem, and then show them the way I did it. We also debate the different ways of approaching the problem. I do stress, as much as possible, the development of critical thinking skills. I find that a key skill here is that the student should try and develop the patience and fortitude to struggle with understanding complex chemical principles (easier said than done?).
Having struggled through four years of attempting to learn chemistry at the undergraduate level, listening to “inarticulate though erudite” lectures on various topics in chemistry in the dank, damp, hallowed halls of the University of Paisley, I was determined to redress the balance in favor of the student. I have recently graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Genetics. During college, I taught/tutored 7th graders at a local middle school in the areas of math and science. I was responsible for full lessons as well as small group tutoring and science experiments. I was able to set-up lessons for the children to explain how math and science works together in order to provide data. Therefore, the students were able to understand how data transforms from quantitative data to qualitative data through graphs and pictures. Also, I was a nanny for three years for two boys which required extensive tutoring. Both children obtained and maintained their respective academic honors during my care.

I attended Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, one of the top 2 school in teaching in Michigan. In college, I tutored Biology and Chemistry. Most of my Chemistry students still thank me today for getting them through the course and into the nursing program. I graduated with a BS in secondary education,Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have been in North Carolina for almost 4 years and I have taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science. I also enjoy Math. I am able to tutor Math students up to and including Algebra I.
