A Little Bit About Me...

Every since I was little, I realized that I wanted to help others. I taught a bunch of young female children about field hockey. I have tutored my cousins in all of the areas listed and it helped them with their studies and their education. While I tutor, I like to have music playing in the background softly. I am available during the academic school semesters and the rest of the remaining summertime. I do have a full time job, and the only time that I am available now would be after 1 pm to about 6 pm throughout the week and weekend.
I am more of a hands on,and mainly a lot of visuals as well as worksheets. Sometimes I use music, artists, sports and current events as a reference.

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer working as a collaborative team with teaching staff/specialists. I believe most of my success comes from continued conversations and ongoing discussions about best practices during staff meetings and professional development workshops. I believe if we can integrate content with cross-curricular themes and skills such as writing across the curriculum in all subjects, not just during the language arts block, All students can access prior knowledge and reframe their thinking when appropriate. Once we establish accountability through state standards, we need to teach one child at a time, at their own level and pace and eliminate lessons that do not move students toward meeting the standards. I am a very patient listener and think that I empathize well with everyone. While student teaching I learned to pay attention to all of the students in a very diverse student body. I chose texts from a variety of backgrounds- the multicultural approach was both ideal and necessary in that setting. I then emphasized the similarities between the texts and the need for standardization in language use. One method which succeeded was my attempt to improve the students' vocabularies by breaking words into their most basic components; they learned to define words which they might not otherwise have recognized. The school of Education in North Carolina prepared me well. I am above all flexible. My license reads K-8 and I have taught Art K-6 for a year, Second Grade for two years in NC. Then in 2001 I taught Title One reading in TN for a year then Fourth grade for three more years. My family moved to Northern VA and I taught Fifth grade there for two years before moving back to TN for a year where I taught 8th grade Algebra, and 7th grade English.
