Teaching confidence through kindness and success

I taught high school social studies for 26 years at Tates Creek High School, primarily as a psychology teacher. I also taught a year at Tates Creek Middle School in the areas of Citizenship and American History. Since retiring, I spent five years as a substitute teacher in the Fayette County system, teaching everything in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and also in a variety of elective studies- from creative writing to geometry and history to earth science. This past year, I volunteered as an all-purpose weekly tutor for a fifth-grader at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary. I enjoy teaching and helping young people grow and gain personal confidence.
I believe in learning about each student, helping him or her become comfortable with the subject matter and then guiding the student to reasonable learning proficiencies.

I have 27 years experience in the high school English classroom, and I have a Master's Degree in English from the University of KY. Depends on the student. I'm very adaptable. To say I am or am not alone thing here would be to exclude those who don't like that style.
I've had years of experience due to my love of English. I'd help my friends and underclassmen to understand a novel or get ideas to write a paper. I'd check their grammar and spelling, and offer advice about the overall style of the paper. Now, I'm studying to become a college professor of English and perhaps French. I love piano and schoolwork

I have been a math, science, history, and music tutor since high school. I conduct for a church choir and have taken piano lessons for many years. I a currently taking advanced lessons with my college professor. Being a part of many organizations in high school has made college a wonderful experience thus far. I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.
