My comments on tutoring English ESOL : Having worked with Latinos most of my life I have interpreted, translated and schooled them most of my life.

I teach according to the necessity of the student or the students,Depending on whether it is one on one situation or a group of people.I realize that in the case of a group or class that not every student is going to learn at the same rate and that not every student has the confidence to speak up.
I was lucky enough to grow up speaking both English and Spanish at home and in schools and social gatherings of Latinos in Mexico. I lived in Mexico for 34 years before going to live in England. I have schooled Latinos in Mexico, England, Canada and the U.S. I owned a Latino employment agency in Indianapolis which I managed for 10 ten years. The vast majority of the workers did not read, write or understood very little English.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an engineer, I love math, and I love tutoring math. Every student has a different way of learning, and I try to find the best way for every one, playing and learning, real problems applied, flash cards, drawings, etc. I truly believe every body can learn, understand and become to love math in the way that I do. I may encourage few of them in become an Engineer, too, and help to improve this country. I worked as a synthetic organic chemist at Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company for five years. I spent the next 20+ years as a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler, teaching my three children from kindergarten until they graduated from high school.(My two oldest are now college graduates and the third is presently in college.) During my years of homeschooling, I taught both chemistry and biology to high school students in our homeschool group. I have experience teaching in large and small groups, and one-on-one. I have worked with preschoolers, school-age children, and adults. I have taught Spanish and English in the high school setting since 1996. I have also taught ESL/ ESOL at homes, in schools, and for private organizations during that time and have had students from ages 6 - 66 from many different countries and at a variety of knowledge levels. I have taught Spanish at the middle school level as well.

While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also expect that my students perform the tasks asked of them in the time given, as to further reach our goals. I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding.
