I graduated from Augustana College with a BA in Math/Computer Science and Education and Northwestern University with and MBA in Marketing and Policy and Environment. While my initial jobs were with corporations in systems, marketing, and planning, I found I used my teaching skills on a daily basis by applying mathematics and computers, doing research and writing reports, organizing and preparing plans, teaching individuals and groups, making presentations, conducting reviews, and continuing to improve my personal and technical skills. My teaching philosophy is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for my students, in which they feel equal and confident as learners. Creating a positive learning environment begins with building a strong rapport with students and coworkers. Another aspect of building a strong classroom community is motivation. As a teacher, my goal is to help student build strong self-efficacy so that they feel inclined to work hard and develop an inner sense of motivation. I use scaffolding in my instruction, so the students are able to watch me demonstrate the skill or strategy, and slowly I turn over more and more responsibilities to the student regarding that skill until he or she is able to do the skill without my assistance.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher has been gained through my work at Easter Seals, a pediatric physical therapy center, for which I have taught many children skills in life, communicating, and other various skills. I believe that a good teacher student relationship is imperative. Also I think that learning is best done in a stress free environment. I strive to provide that environment for the children I assist.
