Teaching is a personal act. I see literature as one of most effective ways that people come to understand one another, the act of reading being a fundamentally unselfish and inquisitive act, an attempt to make sense of and relate to another person’s perspective. Writing is reading’s reciprocal act—a kind of reaching out in hopes of being understood, in adding somehow to the volumes of human perspectives. These are keys to democratic living. A Little Bit About Me...

In college I had the opportunity to work as a peer tutor and also as a tutor for high school students through the Upward Bound program. I did this via face to face as well as through phone tutoring. Upon graduating I was lucky enough to get a full time job with the Upward Bound program and continued to tutor as well as train tutors. Seven years ago I had the opportunity to enter the teaching arena and have enjoyed a wide array of subjects.
A teacher should treat their students as consumers. As consumers those students need to have their needs and expectations met. Every student learns differently and expects the instructor to be the expert in the subject matter. Being that expert the instructor should have and show a passion for the subject that makes the students want to know more.
