A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching others and have worked with a variety of people, who were from any level of elementary through college. My favorite part about teaching is when a student has the “Ah- ha” moment, reminding me that anyone is capable of learning a concept with practice and guidance. I am available to provide some of this guidance for you, so that you can enjoy some “Ah-ha” moments too. I am an easy going and patient person. When I work with students, I try to find their common mistakes/misconceptions so that I can address them and help refine students’ mathematical thinking. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I will try to teach concepts in a way that they can relate to, hopefully making it a more interesting and fun experience.

I believe that the best way to teach is by integrating the artistic with the rational and have even founded a non-profit organization that is dedicated to teaching sustainability and systems theory using a combined approach. I hope to provide students with examples of interconnectedness in order for them to be able to synthesize information presented during lectures and readings with other aspects of their lives. When I was a freshman in college, I knew that my future was in my hands. I befriended and contacted my chemistry professor and zoology advisor. I worked in both of their labs, and I was only a freshman! By studying in their research groups, I gained the experience necessary to intern at Sea Life Park Hawaii. In fact, I was published in 2007 after working for Dr. Charlie Cox in the Chemistry Department. Recognizing the need for more hands-on research experience, I found another opportunity with another professor in cellular biology. In addition to conducting this research, I co-wrote the research proposal for the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. This was an honor, for we were awarded funding for the project!
