A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. I have been in the child care field for over 25 years. I have 4 children of my own. I am currently attending HCC in pursuit of my bachelors degree in elementary education. I have been the director of a local child care center and am currently the VPK teacher. I am responsible for the education of these 20 children to ensure that they are ready to enter Kindergarten. I teach phonics, letter recognition, simple math, and introduce the children to science. These children will leave my room knowing how to write their names, recognize the alphabet, and being able to count to at least 31. Most can count to 100. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I love teaching phonics! There are so many activities that you can do with children to help them learn letter sounds. One year when teaching kindergarten I made an alphabet cookbook with my students!

I have over 25 years teaching in an elementary school. I have worked extensively with children who fall below grade level or need extra help. I use games and manipulative when working with students. I encourage them to do their best and reward them for a job well done. I also involve the parent, leting them know each time what was done and where we are headed.
