A Little Bit About Me...

I am a certified high school teacher with over six years of experience teaching and tutoring in the states as well as abroad. I started college full time at the age of 16 and graduated with an associate and two bachelor degrees before my 20th birthday. I am currently completing a master degree and have maintained a 4.0 grade point average through all 6 years of college. I spent a year living in Mexico and six months in Spain and now speak Spanish fluently. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been researching the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets because I plan on using them as a base for the children that I work with at Community Action Duluth through the Circles of Support program. I believe that teaching children academic skills while building assets within them is necessary for a healthy community. I teach around the 4MAT cycle so I am sure to accommodate all learning styles in my students.

I graduated from Bemidji State University with my Early Childhood Elementary degree in 2007 and for the last two years I have been a k-3 Literacy Tutor with the Minnesota Reading Corps. While I was at BSU I was active with the local girl scouts, and in three years I was a Studio 2B counselor, a pixie camp coordinator, a troop leader, and the co-community coordinator. At BSU I had a variety of different labs and practicums. I am currently enrolled in my last semester as an Accounting student at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Accounting will be the second degree that I have earned. I have a History BSE degree with a certification in Social Science from Minot State University. I think that the combination of these degrees me a very unique prospective in History, Accounting and especially Economics. My patience has been the reason many of my employers pick me to train in the new employees.
I have a lot of patience for people that are learning a new subject and my general demeanor is easy going. I teach through asking questions to bring the learner to the point of the lesson. I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.
