A Little Bit About Me...

During my years as an undergraduate English major, I was drawn to the world of teaching and tutoring through two part-time positions, including one on-campus, with college-aged students, and one with elementary to high school-aged students. I loved seeing my students' pleasure at learning how to comprehend the words they read, to assimilate that information into an in-depth college essay, to finally grasp that one bit of knowledge that so alluded them. I taught students with learning and behavioral disabilities, and was good at my job (and loved it). During the last seven years, I have tutored students in writing, English literature, reading, reading comprehension, psychology, the arts, anthropology, and study skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned my bachelors in Biology which makes me highly qualified to tutor in math and science. While I was in college I tutored students in 3rd-8th grade with math. I also received a Masters degree in Education which helped me learn different ways to teach subjects for higher achievement.
I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. In my masters program and while I have been teaching, I have learned many ways to get students engaged in the material they are learning. Some students learn better with one on one and some do better with group work. You just have to try different approaches until you see which one works best.
