I have retred after 33 years of teaching. 32 years of primarily teaching history or social studies subjects. I also have 15 years of teaching in schools for the deaf, there is some overlap of deaf education and social studies education. I am National Board Certified as a teacher. I believe most students can succeed if they are taught good studying skills. I teach study skills, organizational skills, and note taking skills. I do not only teach names, dates, and places but I also teach them to learn to be able to retell the narrative which helps them to remember the names, dates and places.
I have a Master of Arts degree in US History. I also teach online for a major online university. This has helped to me to understand what a student needs to know in order to succeed in college today. As a Tougaloo graduate, I have had plenty hands on experiences with children. I've tutored children mostly all my life. I also did practicium and observation with children. I have my degree in Early Childhood Development but most of all I've been a substitute working with middle school children.
