More About This Tutor...

During my travels through school i have had my fair share of peer study groups to help with the learning of the material to pass classes. I have also helped allot of my peers with understanding as well. I have tutored through Lassen Community College helping students who were struggling with the concepts of math at lower and higher level classes. One of my professors called me an asset to any tutoring group or peer study group in a recommendation letter to Merced College for tutoring. I am very understanding and try to explain things in ways that it clicks.

I have teaching experience of over 10 years. During my student days, I have always been helping my friends at all levels of my studies and was considered as an excellent tutor. Then I had the honor of teaching in the Army. As a secondary job, I have been teaching maths to O level students in a school in Lahore. I also have 3 years of teaching experience in some of the universities of Lahore, as a visiting faculty member. At the university level, I taught Financial and Management Accounting and Basic Finance to the BBA and MBA students. Apart from the above teaching experience I have been giving private maths tutoring ranging from class 5 to O level students.
I prefer giving one-to-one tutoring but am open to group tutoring too, maximum of 5 students at a time

More About This Tutor...

I am a recent graduate of Santa Clara University. I have a lot of experience in tutoring students in math of all different ages. Being a math major, a lot of my friends in college would come to me for math help when they weren't comfortable with getting a random tutor. I was a TA for several different math courses over the course of my 4 years at Santa Clara in which my responsibilities were to grade daily homework assignments and quizzes. From participating in that I have gained experience finding mistakes in students work and making suggestions on how to approach a problem better. In one of the most recent classes I graded for (a college level pre-calculus class) I held private tutoring and study sessions at my own free will to help them work through problems and to help prepare for exams and quizzes.

My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Calculus is fundamental to the study of Physics. I am exteremely proficient in this form of mathematics.

Problem solving is the best way to learn a technical skill. For instance, in mathematics homework usually consists of a set of problems that the student must solve. By watching how students approach and solve these problems, I can both assess the student's understanding of the material and help them make the logical connections needed to better understand the material. Additionally, I encourage students to adopt the mentality that science and math can actually be fun and a worthwhile use of time.
Throughout high school I tutored students aged 9-14 in a variety of subjects ranging from math to music. I have also tutored informally as a college student, mostly helping coach peers through lower-division physics or math series. In addition, I volunteered for 5 years as a teachers assistent in an elementary and middle school setting, so I understand the dynamics of working with (sometim ... read more

Throughout the course of my education, I have had the opportunity to work with many great instructors and professors; learning the qualities and characteristics of what comprises an effective teacher. I currently possess two degrees, a Bachelors of Arts in Social Science with an emphasis in Teaching Preparation and a Masters of Science in Environmental Management. While I consider myself highly competent and comfortable teaching anything within California’s kindergarten through twelth grade curriculum, my strengths lie within my background and education in science and mathematics. I have also garnered over two years of providing instruction in preparing for the SAT.
Over my years of experience providing supplemental instruction to a diverse range of students, I have found that I possess a breadth of knowledge and interpersonal skill-sets that make me an effective teacher. I teach f ... read more

I enjoy working with students of all ages. As a teacher, there is nothing greater than to see my students succeed. I am more results-oriented and I encourage students to work persistently until they have accomplished their goals. I am friendly, patient, and easy going. Throughout high school and college, I belonged to several tutoring organizations. I took multiple extra classes on education and tutoring techniques at Cal Poly. My senior project researched the process in which adolescents first learn to think abstractly. Stanford's STEP program was an intense year which prepared me very well for classroom teaching. My colleagues continually asked for copies of my original lesson plans. Many students thanked me for helping them "finally get math." I have enjoyed the last 5 years of teaching. I would be teaching this year, but the timing of my recent marriage and move would have made a full time teaching position awkward. I hope to continue helping students become more confident in their math skills.

After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time. I believe that tutoring is a very powerful tool because a lot of students need that extra push to succeed that they can’t get being in a classroom.
As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. After I transferred to CSU Stanislaus, I worked both at the tutoring center and for a state program that placed me in one of the local high schools to work with groups of seniors with low math scores in order to help improve their SAT scores. After graduation, I was hired as a substitute teacher. However, the classroom setting ... read more
