A Calm, supportive, and structured formula for growth, with take away techniques. The light bulb moments are what motives the student to learn the subject at hand. Positive, upbeat environment, to encourage rather than discourage the students continued improvement.

Possession is 9/10 of the law.. Description is 9/10 of saw.

I have been writing for my whole life, and have a love of the art that is description. Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional. My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. No matter what form of writing you endeavor to do, getting your point across through description is paramount. I have placed and won poetry contests, and have written many essays of undergraduate and graduate levels.

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience is one that has taken me many different places to meet many diffrent people. I have always had a gift of helping others and conveying to them my knowledge. I obtained my BA in English Communication from Talladega College and also i have a minor in History. I have had a great deal of expereince in writng papers, essays, articles ,and reports. During my time in college, I also tutored Spanish speaking students in the usuage of the English language.
I would say my teaching style is more relaxed. I believe this helps one see students weaknesses and strengths better. It also allows one to compare the overall effect of teaching for each student. When I see a student falling behind then thats when I take action and try top get them where they should be in that area.

I enjoy helping children discover new areas, encouraging them to move way from the trite and trivial to new and daring concepts in their research. Often a trivial fact that they never knew will open the doors to opportunities they never envisioned. My son has many interests, and I have always encouraged him to explore them beyond the basics - he can now engage in some amazing discussions with my father, a former Army Ranger, about events in Vietnam that I know were never taught in my history classes. I say that because that is what I believe is my goal in teaching - let the child explore on their own, but be their to catch them when they fall. My duty is to be their guide on the journey; theirs is to show me the uncharted path.

More About This Tutor...

As a lifelong learner I have spent the last two years working on my teaching degree in Elementary Education. I have spent many hours working and observing students in all grades from K-6 the in the state of Alabama and in Florida. I have been able to gain a great understanding through a very well rounded Education program at Athens State University. The program has helped me to understand how to apply my studies and hands on experiences within the school systems to become a knowledgeable and professional teacher.
As a teacher I am a firm believer that all students can learn. It is my job to be a positive supportive professional. I want all students to have a comfortable non threatening learning environment that is conducive for learning. I will work very hard to meet the learning needs of all students, if that means making accommodations for their learning needs. I understand that ... read more

I truly enjoy teaching math and enjoy watching the 'click' when a student begins to understand the concepts. I believe many students have been erroneously convinced that "they don't get math" or that math is too hard. I believe in not just working through the problems at hand but in trying to help each student gain a better understanding of the thinking process involved in solving problems. Although proficiency comes through practice, there is more to math than just rote repetition.
I began tutoring students in 1984 while working in the math lab as an undergraduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi. After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a general science minor, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra as a graduate teaching assistant. I have been tutoring/teaching mathematics and some sciences ever since. I have experience tu ... read more

As a graduate student, I tutored 5th graders in Math at Montevallo Elementary School. Through this experience, I learned that all students are different and require different ways and methods of teaching. I began to understand that being “in-tune” with children’s different learning styles was very important to be successful in reaching them. I’ve also tutored a 3rd grade boy in reading for one summer. Helping the child build fluency and comprehension were my two main goals. We also worked on understanding word meaning and phonological awareness. I have also gained knowledge in tutoring my own son in all subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

My greatest joy in life is teaching children and opening their eyes to all of the things they are capable of doing and learning. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them develop into well-rounded, responsible, and successful individuals. My greatest strengths include inspiring and motivating students. I actively engage in their eager minds by incorporating a variety of manipulatives, enjoyable activities, and cooperative learning projects. In addition, I tailor lesson plans to meet their diverse interests, as well as demonstrate direct connections between the classroom and everyday life. I believe all students should be given the chance to succeed, and with a little help, I truly believe they will.

During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. Some learn better by seeing an example and then working it out on their own with someone to consult if they get stuck. Other learn better with what they hear and others what they read. It is better to see how each person learns best and teach from that angle. Also, patience is the greatest teaching aid available to any teacher or student.

I enjoy working, teaching, and mentoring children. I have learned to adjust to the different learning styles of children, which makes it easier for the child to feel more comfortable with learning. In order to work with children there has to be a great amount of patience and concern. I have learned patience through working with children from all walks of life and I have come to appreciate each child's story. I belive that reaching out to those in need will not only help someone else to meet their full potential but for the teacher also. I believe in making a difference in other's life because others have helped shaped me into who I am today.

A Little Bit About Me...

Young children learn best through things that have meaning to them. For example, I once tutored a child that had difficulty learning his multiplication tables, but was an avid NASCAR fan. I taught him the sums of multiplication problems by using the numbers on the drivers cars. He learned that the sum of 6x4, and 4x6 was equal to Jeff Gordon's number, which was 24. We did that with every car in NASCAR and people were amazed at how quickly he learned his multiplication tables. Multiplication tables became a breeze to him. I have used similar principals teaching phonics, and reading to young children. I also, have a history of being patient and understanding with elementary aged children.

Often, what a child needs is the addition of a one-on-one teacher to give a him/her the confidence to succeed. The identification of and then overcoming certain weaknesses in a child's ability to assimilate the written word can lift a barrier and open the door for better reading. I eagerly respond to the opportunity to help a child overcome that barrier.
Since I graduated from college, I have been involved with teaching in one capacity or another, whether in the school systems, in Sunday Schools, as a parent, or as an independent contractor as a test writer in the Language Arts field. My specialty in graduate school was reading and Language Arts. I am presently tutoring an ESL student in a local elementary school.

My teaching style really is centered around the type of student I am helping. Some kids need a visual experience where others need a lot of repetition. I first get to know the student and figure out how they learn the best and then I go from there. I am very patient and understanding and will do whatever it takes to get the student to reach their potential.
As a graduate from Auburn University and a post graduate now at UAB I have a very driven personality to succeed in life and pursue high goals for myself. I came from a less challenging background, (high school) and I know that it is a competitve world out there especially for kids in the science and math fields. I know that my background in science and math has given me the skills to help others in math problems, science questions, ways to study for this type of material and also how to write laboratory reports.
