Having my bachelor degree in English and Philosophy, I have been given a unique understanding towards how to ask questions to make people think about the material they're reading, and what questions the material is trying to ask. Cumulatively, including extended substitute teaching situations, I have taught all grade levels 1-12 in various subjects. I would describe my teaching style as ecclectic. By this I mean that I discern which style or strategy would best accomdodate the needs of the particular child, based on their learning style. Once the child's learning style is distinguished, I would tailor my lessons/tutoring to that particular style.
Throughout college, I consistently worked as a tutor or mentor, specifically with minority populations. Upon graduation, I joined Teach for America and taught high school English in rural North Carolina.
