I have currently worked at the Herkimer ARC for the past eight years. I have alot of experience working with people with disabilites from severe Mental Retardation, Cerebal Palsy,Autism, Learning Disability and Mental Heath. I have obtained a degree from Herkimer College in applied science with a minor in education. I also went to Mohawk Valley Community College for two years to obtain a degree in Nursing. Once I am assigned a child I initally spend time going over a typical homework assignment to see where they are having some trouble. I get them to read out loud to me to see what their level of reading is. Some kids have problems sounding out the words or with simple rules of grammar. Once I see where they are at then I start bringing in some workbooks to help them in that particular area and apply that to their homework.
