I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it.
For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a variety of teaching styles, i.e cooperative learning, learning centers, interactive learning, sight and tactile learning. The school system I am in emphasizes Differentiated Instruction. I believe I make a difference in student's lives both educationally and as a role model.
My experience as a teacher began when I was in the U.S. Navy, I was an Financial and Department Training instructor. After retiring from the Navy I went to work in the school system as a security assistant. After one year I resigned and went to Norfolk State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a major concentration in Learning Disabled and a minor in Emotionally Disturbed. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked for Norfolk City Public Schools and Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a substitute teacher for approximately six years. During that period I performed a multitude of jobs including long term substitute positions, teaching high school physics, and performed tasks far beyond the parameters of substitute job specifications. This current school year I was requested by the school improvement specialist, to work as the primary SOL tutor for Earth Science.
