I believe that in order to succeed in teaching and being an educator you must inspire those that you are teaching. A child who is excited to learn, will do much better. I feel a hands on approach is best, guiding the child to personal success.
As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.
While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. I attained my first degree in Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University in 2003. After working in that field for a few years, however, I chose to change my career path. I then went back to school at the City College of New York to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. I am happy to say that I am graduating this month (December 2010), and have not regretted pursuing this second degree at all. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. I graduated with a Bachelors in Adolescent Education: Mathematics. I started tutoring my peers during my senior year of high school in 2005. At college I worked in the student learning center as a mathematics tutor.
I loved learning mathematics throughout my college experience and during my student teaching in both high school geometry and college algebra courses I realized that my passion is my strength.
