As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them. I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it.

I enjoy children and trying to teach them new and exciting things. At times, I understand that it requires patience to work with children, but if you are able to do that then chances of success are much more likely. I believe that everything we teach to these children will be needed sooner or later in life, and that the understanding of this knowledge will further improve their lives. I have a bachelor's degree from the College of Saint Benedict. During my college education I worked for three years as a college writing tutor helping my students achieve academic excellence. Due to my degree and work experience I have ample experience and expertise in grammar, writing process and writing technique. Following my education I served two years with AmeriCorps: The first year with the Minnesota ReadingCorps wherein I worked with under-achieving first graders and the second year with the National Civilian Community Corps wherein I traveled the American Southwest doing various service projects. I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math.
