I believe learning should be fun. I also think its perfectly okay to make mistakes and know that we all do! I try to make all students feel at ease around me and we usually find ourselves laughing as we learn. I assess your skill levels in multiple areas and gear my lessons to your needs. I use measurable assessments so you can see your progress.
I have taught ESL for 12 years and high school English for 2 years in public schools. I tutored my first subjects many years ago while in college when I tutored Composition I and II, Poetry, and Psychology. I have since tutored many hours in English-related areas. I specialize in English as a Second Language and have taught students from all around the world at a variety of proficiency levels. I have teaching licenses in multiple subjects in ND and MN and have a Master's degree in Teaching.

I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I'm just there to guide, explain, provide details, clarify, relate new information to existing knowledge, etc. The student has to be "in charge," so to speak. I can't force knowledge into someone's mind, it has to be learned, but I can help make that information real and relevant to provide the motivation to learn. I'm very attentive to affective factors (stress, irrelevance, animosity, etc.) that can impede learning, and I strive to provide a learning environment that will foster a love of learning and scholarship. I do believe that all children learn differently and my FIRST goal is to find out how that child learns best and go around the child's needs---not expecting the child to learn how I teach and limit that child. Because of my experiences in the past, I've had great opportunities of working with Special Needs children of which is a grea example of finding the way the child learns best. I love teaching children and I love learning along with them as well. I love HANDS-ON learning, allowing the child(ren) to explore in order to learn about the subjects and about themselves as well. I know I've made a difference in children's lives in the past and plan on continuing this in the future (every day I have this opportuniy with my own 4 children )!!
