I have extensive experience in academic work, specifically in the areas of math and science. In earning both a BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering, I not only developed an understanding of mathematical and scientific principles, but I learned how to work and communicate in groups to further common interests. As a graduate student at the University of Washington, I served as a teaching assistant, leading both recitation sections in thermodynamics and teaching basic materials labs, for students both inside and outside of our department.

My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build confidence while using their weaknesses to set goals. Blooms taxonomy is essential to use for setting standards and assessment of student learning. As a high school junior, I was selected to attend the prestigious NC School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM). Afterward, I graduated early from UNC-Chapel Hill, receiving a BA in English with a minor concentration in mathematics. I pursued a career in information technology, most recently running Gap Inc.'s European operations. Last year, I left the corporate world to write a novel, which I completed in June 2005.
