Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. I view teaching as successful transference of knowledge. I have a profound respect for teachers that teach for the love of it. After I completed my Bachelors degree, I taught for 2 weeks at a High School in Barbados that catered to students with special education needs. Though it was a short period of time, I enjoyed developing different techniques to engage the unique needs of each child. I prefer interactive methods of teaching as I believe that children learn more when they feel a part of the learning process. The students that I taught appreciated my caring and patient approach. Patience is key when tutoring because pressure only inhibits learning potential. I receive great joy from the expression on a child’s face when they have finally understood a concept.
