Creative, energetic tutor with special needs experience

I homeschooled a gifted third grader, including administering standardized end-of-grade test, for 1 year. I have tutored homeschooled first and third graders in math, reading, writing, social studies, and art for the last 6 months. I tutored a 8-12-year-old with autism spectrum for 4 years. My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : As a reading Specialist, I have had the opportunity to help individual students. I find the student's strengths and try to build from that.

I have taught in a first and second grade classroom for ten years, and served as a Reading Specialist for k-5 for seven. I have discovered that the most successful way to teach a child how to read is gaining their interest and full attention, while observing what learning style is best for each individual child. While teaching I use an assortment of manipulatives, repetitive phonics instruction, and books! Whatever works for your child, works for me! This is my first year not teaching in the public schools, and I am very familiar with the assessments and expectations. I was a ABA therapist for a company around the Fort Campbell, Ky area for over a year. I worked with special needs children, emphasis on autism.
