Social Studies is one of my top subjects!

I love tutoring students because through my experience I have learned that one on one time can be really beneficial to all students. During this time I am able to really talk with students to figure out what their specific needs are. I can also help students learn specific study and reading skills. Through my experience, I have seen the most improvement with students when they have one on one time with their tutor or teacher.

Reading opens whole new worlds just waiting to be explored.

I spent three Summers working as a volunteer, teaching reading to children of Hungarian refugees in England. I enjoyed working with these young people and they were eager to learn. I am a voracious reader and have been all my life. I am also a writer, I have had articles published in our Diocesan magazine and in the Franciscan Times, I am currently an assistant editor of Franciscan Times. I enjoy writing short stories and reflections. I love to see children discover the joys of reading and it is my belief that being an excellent reader is the basis for learning in other subjects.

I have a Masters Degree in Teaching. I am currently an EC teacher. I am shocked at the number of students who do not have the basic skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies but yet the school system continues to pass them to the next grade without these skills. During the past five years, I have worked as an EC resource teacher in both elementary and middle schools. I am licensed to teach K-12 EC.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a passionate teacher and tutor. I believe that there is not a minute to waste when working with youth, and I like to conduct vigorous tutorials and well-paced classes. I believe that everyone has a different learning style, and this is why tutoring is such an integral supplement to classroom teaching. I enjoy getting to know my students and creating lesson plans for tutorials based on their personal learning styles. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children are capable of learning--the trick is to figure out each child's individual style. I believe strongly in developing positive relationships with my students, and the rapport I have with them in the classroom or while tutoring has aided their successes. I tend to adjust my methods as I learn more about my students, and my students have experienced quite a bit of success in the past.
I have a BS in Elementary Education and just completed my sixth year of teaching at the elementary level. I have experience teaching grades 2, 3 and 4, and I'm comfortable tutoring students in all aspects of the elementary curriculum up through grade 8. While in college, I tutored fellow college students for two years in biology, English and math, and I was named Outstanding Tutor in my second year.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children. I've taught acting at the Durham Arts Council for three years. The duties from that position included directing students in performances which I helped them create. The plays were written around themes chosen by the camp director. So, in essence, the children and I would research those themes and develop stories which I would then turn into plays using my expertise. Those plays would be performed every two weeks for the entire summer. I was responsible for preparing three classes for this project simultaneously.

A Little Bit About Me...

The taste of success is a great motivator in education, but students are often exposed to destructive associations of failure. My teaching style is to provide the tools for a student to take accountability for their academic success in order to tap into their learning potential so that they can flourish. My goal is to enable a student to be a successful life-long learner. I am enthusiastic and motherly. I care for students. I adjust my approach based on various types of educational environments and students, traditional and non-traditional, accelerated to learning-challenged.
