A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated in December 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. My specializations are in elementary education (prek-6th grade) and all-level special education. I worked in Hale Center ISD for the after school enrichment program at Akin Elementary from August 2012 until the program ended in June 2013. I completed one rotation of student teaching in special education at Hillcrest Elementary and one rotation of student teaching in a 3rd grade classroom at Thunderbird Elementary. I have been teaching special education at Highlands Elementary since January 2014.
Through my teaching style I emphasize hands-on learning by using manipulatives. I also use modeling and repetition. As a late bloomer to my education, I understand the importance of completeing an education at the earliest time. I currently hold a BS degree in business with an emphasis on international markets. This degree has helped me to better understand and appreciate economics, business math and accounting. In pusuit of this I have written papers from a 2 page summary to an 80 page thesis. In the past years I have tutored in Spanish 101 and 102 on the college level, accounting, English Comp, Art Appreciation, Shakespeare, and Adult Basic Education for GED students.

My life has been filled with teaching and working with children. At the age of ninteen as a very young mother I felt a sense of duty in teaching my children how to achive higher than they can ever have imagined. I love to see the look of awe on their faces when they realize that they to can understand which ever subject that slips them. The rest is simple practice, practice, practice seals the deal. Then stride to the next hurdle. Each child has a different way of learning things.
