I have a laid back teaching style, within the next year I plan to get my MAT so I can teach in NC. I believe that this will help me reinforce some of my teaching skills that I will use from everyday basis.
As a history major at Western I had to read many books and an accelerated rate. Also being an English minor I gained analytical and grammatical skills to help better understand pieces of literature I had to read and I can pass those skills to other students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. I have tutored students in Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. I have currently been working for Macon County Schools, substitute teaching and tutoring for the end of grade tests.

My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build confidence while using their weaknesses to set goals. Blooms taxonomy is essential to use for setting standards and assessment of student learning. In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. I have taught GRE prep for the past 3 years, covering the verbal, quantitative (math), and analytical writing (essay) areas. As a test prep teacher, I have a close knowledge of students' approach to graduate school, and the process of improving their chances of acceptance to schools of choice.
